Boxed lunches will be available for the midday meal on Saturday. All meals must be ordered in advance (more info about ordering to come). You may order as many meals as you choose. The fee per meal is $5.00.

There are no cookbooks preserved from medieval Russia, only information on the food stuffs available and what monks ate. This luncheon is based on Russian Delight: A Cookbook of the Soviet Peoples (Pan Books, 1984) by the renowned chef and historian William Pohlebkin (as translated by Theresa Prout). His work contains the best available information on traditional cooking, uncontaminated by French influences.

Each meal will contain:

  • Rye bread
  • Sour cream packet (ask for extra when you pick up your lunch to add to your okroshka)
  • Apple
  • Cheese
  • Pickled items (pickles, olives, onions)
  • Autumn vegetable okroshka (if alcohol, yeast, or gluten is an issue for you, you may request that the kvass not be poured over this cold vegetable dish. See Kvass in the recipes list for more info)

    • Meat Lovers’ option: pot roast
    • Vegetarian option: pirogis
